Loan Guarantee Program
In February 2011, the Department of Energy offered a $343 million loan guarantee to the One Nevada Transmission Line Nevada (ON Line) project; a 235 mile, 500 kV AC transmission line capable of carrying 600 MW of power to the grid.
The technology employed in the project is conventional and has been used in the construction of thousands of miles of high voltage transmission lines. However, ON Line will improve grid reliability and efficiency, and reduce power costs.
The transmission line’s development will produce 400 construction jobs. When operational, it will provide 15 permanent jobs.
ON Line is viewed as part of the transmission backbone that will bring wind and solar resources from Wyoming, Idaho, and Nevada to California and other major-load areas. ON Line also integrates Northern and Southern Nevada, which is critical to ensure the reliability and integrity of the western grid for decades to come. Approximately 90% of total project costs are sourced in the U.S. (including equipment and labor).
